Childlife-A future for street children in Mae Sai
Many thanks to Ms Dipl. med. Gudrun Daugs and Mr Peter Wohlfeil for a exceptional Christmas present.
On 13.11.2001 contacted us Peter Wohlfeil after he had come across our project on the internet. P. Wohlfeil informed us
that Ms Dipl. med. Daugs and himself would fly toThailand for
a "SOS Children's Villages" conference and would like to use
this opportunity to visit the children and examine them This
offer was a very special and truly exceptional Christmas
present for us and the children.

Before their departure they both spent lots of time and efforts
to effectively prepare their two-day visit. In close cooperation
with us they organized various medicine to treat the children
in Mae Sai. Furthermore Mr Wohlfeil was able to collect both money donations as well as material donations and they
departed to Bangkok with lots of additional luggage on
24.12.01. After a stop-over in Bangkok and an adventurous flight they arrived in Chiang Rai in the hotel on the 25.12.01. The following day they were picked up by Childlife staff.
On arrival at the Childlife center they were warmly welcomed by the children. After a short tour through the center they handed over the donations which were issued immediately to the children. Ms Dipl. med. Daugs decided to examine the children outside. Also it became clear that an extra shelf was needed for the new medicines, which later on was bought from the doantion money.
At about 3.00 pm Ms Dipl. med.Daugs began to examine the children. In the beginning they were rather reluctant as they were not used it and were afraid that they all would have to get an injection. But after some calming words all of the 42 children could be examined.

While Ms.Dipl. med. Daugs was examining the children, Mr Wohfeil was documneting it with photographs and with Ralph's (volunteer) help took notes of name and background of each child.

Luckily the examination results showed that except two children there were only minor injuries and skin infections.

Those two children need to vist the local hospital to take a blood test,
the costs luckily can be met by the donations.

Finally Dipl. med. Daugs checked the medicaments. Most of the medicine Childlife had acquired prior to the visit had to be thrown out. The medicaments and medical bandages from Germany cover the whole range of medicin which is needed in MaeSai like Antibiotika. It was very important for us that we now have a sufficent amount of bandages. But we still need to acquire Kühlbeutel and Wasserstoffperoxyd.

This day full of work was concluded at the the newe year'sy party at a local NGO.
At 8.00 pm the 42 children and 6 adults journeyed on one pick up truck and
two motorcycles. Eating and partying the time passed by quick and it was midnight that
Dr Daugs and Mr Wohlfeil reached their hotel in Mae Sai . The next dayDipl. med. Daugs instantely started with the treatment of the children. Ralph took notices, which will be translated into Thai so that all of staff will be able to take care of the follow up treatments. Before the treatment all children were given a doll, which was a nice gift.

Finally Dipl. med. Daugs and Mr Wohfeil handed over the money donation in the spartan Childlife office. The
donations will be used to acquire a much needed
washing machine, a boiler and other useful items for
the project. Unfortunately a visit to a small Akkha
settlement, where some of teh children come from had
to be cancelled as both had a tight schedule and were
running out of time.Childlife staff sent them back to
the airport and sayed goodbye witha big thank you.

The charity "Kinderleben Eine Zukunft für Strassenkinder in Mae Sai e.V." also would like to thank
Dipl. med. Gudrun Daugs, Peter Wohlfeil and all the other unknown donors who supported them and therewith the children money or material donations.
